Thanksgiving is a day of family celebration and togetherness. It is a time where family members get to share in special moments of life. Most of all they get to praise God, glorify his name and thank him for everything that happens in their life.

The Martha Chapter No. 37 Order of the P.H.A Celestial Lodge No. 36 F. & A.M. – P.H.A of the Red Bank NJ provided turkey meals to the family of residents of Red Bank.

The event was organized by Tywan Loney of Asbury Park New Jersey. He was very happy that he could make a difference by helping others. Loney says that Thanksgiving will be become an annual event with the help of Celestial Lodge members.

Who Killed Joan Colbert and Veronica Roach? Authorities Seek Public’s Help

Long Branch, NJ – About 100 people gathered on the corner of Lippincott Ave and Halburton Pl on Friday night after news spread wide across the community. Two people were found dead, a woman and a 10-year-old girl.

The woman has been identified as 62-year-old Joan Colbert, and her adopted daughter Veronica Roach.

Authorities have released few details besides the woman and the girl were found dead in their home on Lippincott Avenue by a relative around 5:22 p.m. Friday.

An autopsy, performed by Assistant Middlesex County Medical Examiner Dr. Diane Karlik ruled both deaths were the result of homicide.

When news spread of the death of Joan Colbert and Veronica Roach, the family-oriented neighborhood went into shock. A long time resident and generation of family members before her can’t believe our beloved Joan and her adopted daughter have been attacked in such a vicious way.

Joan was like a big sister to the kids of the community while growing up across from Grant Court, located on Central Avenue in Long Branch. The Joan that I knew wouldn’t hurt a fly and always had encouraging words to say to me.  She saw the potential in me and always asked how I was doing in school and in life. Joan was one of the older kids that you would see at the Long Branch High School football and basketball games cheering on her green wave.  The Joan that I knew loved the lord.  I always remember all the families heading off to church including the Colbert family.  And all the hearts she touched.

Long Branch has lost the value of family and the makeup of the community forces for good citizens like Joan and her precious adopted daughter Veronica, whom she took care since she was 3 months old, to be attacked and murdered.

To the families of Joan Colbert and Veronica Roach, UV gives its deepest and sincere sympathy for your loss.

Investigators are asking anyone with any information that may be important to solving this crime to call Detective Richard Chapman, of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-577-8700, or Detective Ross Zotti, of the Long Branch Police Department at 732-222-1000.

Anyone who feels the need to remain anonymous but has information about a crime can contact Monmouth County Crime Stoppers confidential telephone tip-line by calling 1-800-671-4400 ;can text “MONMOUTH” plus their tip to274637; or, they can email a tip via the website at www.monmouthcountycrimestoppers.com

Conversation on Race : America Should Be Ashamed Of Herself!

Will America, the most powerful nation on earth, ever get it right when comes to humanity and race relations in our own homeland? The words of my white colleague voice resonates loudly in my ears when it comes to race in this country: “I am ashamed to be White!” She voiced this to me after America witnessed the beating of Rodney King video that shocked the world in 1991. The police officers looked like savages violating the civil rights of Rodney King with no remorse at all. It was the sign of the times.  Because while the police were doing their thing, you had White America raking havoc in the work place both governmental and in private industry.

It has been over 23 years since she made that statement and 23 years of recurrence of hell for the people of color in this country. My response to my co-worker was to look her in the eyes and asked her; did you do the beating? And she replied no; then I said to her don’t she ever be of ashamed of who you are. It was the bad police officers who did the beaten not you I said.

It made her feel at ease but she was highly upset that people who shared her same skin color could be so hateful and mean. She did not want to be looked at as a racist but just a young Greek American trying to make it in this world.

People of color couldn’t trust the authority because of the bad people posing as cops. It was a scary feeling not knowing if the cop were real or not.  For this reason it has been open season on the black man and the people of color especially ever since Ronald Reagan took office. People attitudes became more out forward and aggressive on the job and in the public sector. Even the racism in schools across the land had increased. The Bushes did nothing to stop the influx of racism that was being demonstrated on and off the job and in our society. Tense racial cases only have intensified because the justice system can’t see past racial lines when deciding a case in this country. Even though we as a people put trust in the system because we believe that we are Americans and that justice will work. Are we being naive?

So why does everything have to be about race in this country. Why is it double standards when it comes to whites and non whites?  One thing for sure the question comes will “America ever get it right when it comes to race relations”?

Look at the signs of the time. Look how America has many outside countries hating on them. Then you have people wanting to join fascist groups and all kinds of crazy things because they have been beat down so much by the ill racist system in our society. This in itself after years of harassment can make any violated young man or woman to dislike the greatest country in the world. Is this one of the reasons why the you see young people joining militant groups?

Were they constantly harassed and stopped by the police on a daily who decided to choose to go that route? Who knows but I know there’s a pattern that shows that many good people have been victimized in some form or fashion and the perpetrated is usually white. People may feel that with being watched by racist white  and uncle Tom police officers they find no hope for justice and feel a lack of freedom. And the worst part, these officers have also messed with the elite blacks of the community dehumanizing them too. Yes, as explained by our white sister ;racism is a mental illness.

It is happening right in Long Branch, Neptune, Asbury Park and all across the country. Lets work together once again in a country that is “still trying to get it right”.

America we are not dumb or stupid. Yes, I said it! Wake up and come together as one so that we can be the most powerful nation on this earth.

So will America get it right?, I believe the good people outweigh the bad. But making all residents scared after seeing military equipment is something that has to be addressed and taken out of small towns like Ferguson in this country. I believe the country has seen enough.  What about you?

Spiritual Rejuvenation at Soul Tabernacle City of Refuge

First as the founder of UV, I would like to introduce the Unheard Voices family to our newest UV category called the Gospel. This category was introduced because of the need for people to share their gospel with others all across the world. The love of the Gospel and the Lord will lift anybody’s spirit and soul. For this reason we have dedicated this section to all our avid Gospel fans.

Unheard Voices first stopped at the Soul Tabernacle City Refuge Church in the The Bron, NY. In September 2014, I was invited by Minister Todd Brown to fellowship with God at his place of worship where Pastor Dr. Derek A. Roberts resides over his congregation. I was very pleased and happy to fellowship at the Soul Tabernacle City of Refuge during their 11th Church and Pastoral Anniversary in the Bronx NY. What a rejoiceful time it was!

Todd Church 011 300x194 Spiritual Rejuvenation at Soul Tabernacle City of Refuge

Spreading The Gospel at the Soul Tabernacle Church in the Bronx NY

Dr. Derek A Robert’s sermon message for the day was entitled “I believe I can fly”.  His focus message was on being happy and learning how to fly by using the Eagle. Dr. Robert’s metaphorically used the bird to show that Eagles are independent creatures and learn how to take care of themselves at an early age and that we should do the same in the eyes of God! When it is time it is time! The Eagle would push his baby out of the nest which shows a form of independence from the family. The mighty Eagle will not fall but will glide and fly like no other bird. Pastor Robert advised his congregation to “Get up on the wings of the Eagle and learn to fly. Be satisfied with what you have because God knows your needs. All you have to do is wait on him! Because man will disappoint you every time but God is always on time. God is omnipotent, magnificent,  a caring and forgiving God. He knows the importance of family and is there with you in good times and in bad. ”

The crowd caught the holy spirit and really showed their emotion and connection with God. It was absolutely awesome spiritual moment.

I loved the morning service so much that I came back to the afternoon service to fellowship again. The spirit of God had move me so much that I just couldn’t get enough of God’s love and spirit that was being delivered by Pastor Roberts.

KYDS Presents One Mic One Soul Open Mic In Asbury Park NJ

Jena Six Defendant, Theo Shaw, Heads To Law School

Do you remember the Jena 6? 6 black young men from a small town in Louisiana that were charged with attempted murder after a fight at their high school. The boys were written off as criminals in a town that had already had deep rooted issues with race. A Louisiana prosecutor had Shaw charged with attempted murder, alleging that he participated in an attack at Jena High School, a high school so boiling with racial tension that three white students there had hung a noose from a tree.

Although the white classmate they fought was soon discharged from the emergency room and felt well enough to attend a school event the next day, the six boys had to be taught a lesson. They wanted to throw away the key on them.

I remember the coverage so well. In New York City a radio host by the name of Michael Baisden campaigned to rally for support of those six young men. And as the news started to spread, thousands of people across the country went to Jena and expressed their anger at Louisiana’s attempt to permanently ruin the young men’s lives. Shaw, whose inability to post bail had left him in jail seven months, was eventually released. Though he insists that he played no role in the attack on the student, in court Shaw pleaded no contest to misdemeanor simple battery.

Almost eight years after the incident, Shaw is proving that his life did matter and will be breaking free from Louisiana. Theo Shaw will be enrolling this fall at the School of Law at the University of Washington. Not only will he be enrolling, but he will be going on a full scholarship as he’s been chosen as one of the incoming class’ five William H. Gates Public Service Law Scholars.

Years later we wouldn’t be talking about Shaw’s accomplishment if the system was allowed to write him and the other five young men off.

Through the love and support, it took Shaw time to believe that he was as good as his supporters were telling him.

“I had to believe in their belief in me till mine kicked in,” he said. Now a law school in Seattle is expressing a similar belief.

“For a school to believe in you so much that they would just cover everything?” Shaw said. “I’m profoundly grateful.”

Congratulations Theo Shaw!

Race relations have become a major issues of the 21th Century in the United States of America. After years of Reaganomics during the 80s and lack of Presidential leadership that followed has increased racial prejudice and discrimination against people of color. The year 2015 has reach a boiling point where most citizens Blacks, Whites, Latinos,Asian and others are tired of the blood shed by police and the lack of accountability for their actions. Minister Louis Farrakhan said it best when he said that “America’s greatest problem in the year 2000 and beyond would be that of race.” Citizens of Long Branch please come out and support change for the betterment of our community.

Hate Crime Leaves 9 Dead in South Charleston, S.C.

Shock hit the news airwaves late last night as reports of gunfire erupted in a historic church in South Carolina. On June 17th , Dylann Roof, a white male opened fire at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Charleston, S.C. killing 6 women and 3 men. Among the dead is The Rev. Clementa Pinckney above who also served as the Senator of South Carolina. Authorities are investigating this a hate crime and an act of terrorism as the 21-year-old opened fire during a prayer meeting simply because he wanted to kill black people.

Rev. Clementa Pinckney

Law enforcement officials arrested Roof after a traffic stop in Shelby, North Carolina, about 220 miles (350 km) north of Charleston, said police chief Gregory Mullen.

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said her office was investigating whether to charge Roof with a hate crime motivated by racial or other prejudice. Such crimes typically carry harsher penalties.

“The fact that this took place in a black church obviously raises questions about a dark part of our history,” U.S. President Barack Obama told reporters. “We don’t have all the facts but we know that, once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun.”

Roof sat with churchgoers inside Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church for about an hour on Wednesday before opening fire, Mullen said, adding that police believe Roof acted alone.

Roof was charged on two separate occasions earlier this year with a drug offense and trespassing, according to court documents. In a Facebook profile apparently belonging to him, he is pictured wearing a jacket prominently featuring the flags of apartheid-era South Africa and Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, from when the two African countries were ruled by their white minorities.

The shooter told one survivor he would let her live so she could tell others what happened, the president of the Charleston NAACP, Dot Scott, told the local Post and Courier newspaper.

A cousin of Pinckney’s, Sylvia Johnson, told MSNBC that a survivor of the shooting told her the gunman reloaded five times during the attack during a Bible-study group. Pinckney tried to talk him out of it, she said.

“He just said, ‘I have to do it. You rape our women and you’re taking over our country,” Johnson said.

“It is a very, very sad day in South Carolina, but it is a day that we will get through,” Governor Nikki Haley, a Republican, told reporters. “Parents are having to explain to their kids how they can go to church and feel safe, and that’s not something we ever thought we’d deal with.”

Two River Theater Continues To Bring Explosiveness With August Wilson’s Seven Guitars

As the Two River Theater enters the fourth successful season into presenting August Wilson’s plays, it proves introducing Wilson’s stories was one of the best things the theater has done to bring more diversity into its surrounding community. This year The Two River Theater opened its season with an eye opening and powerful play by August Wilson entitled Seven Guitars. Not only did it start off the 2015/2016 season, it was also the directorial debut for actor, now director, Brandon Dirden. Brandon Dirden is a veteran at Two River having starred in the world premiere of Ruben Santiago-Hudson’s Your Blues Ain’t Sweet Like Mine and in Topdog/Underdog, in which he starred opposite his brother Jason Dirden under the direction of the play’s author, Suzan-Lori Parks.

Seven Guitars is apart of Wilson’s 10-part century cycle in Hills District section of Pittsburgh, PA that explores the beauty and the struggles of everyday living for black Americans. Seven Guitars, the first of the 10-play series, takes place in the 1940s. And just like his other plays, takes the audience on a journey of the unfortunate realities black Americans had to face while telling a story.

In this play cycle, Seven Guitars is a music story that captures the essence of community that surrounds around the characters Floyd “Schoolboy” Barton (Kevin Mambo), a Pittsburgh bluesman with one hit record and eager to return to Chicago to make another. His dilemma is that his drummer Red Carter (Charlie Hudson III) and harmonica player Canewell (Jason Dirden) have little interest in returning to Chicago, and his former lover Vera (Christina Acosta Robinson) is even more opposed to the proposition.

seven guitars 150x150 Two River Theater Continues To Bring Explosiveness With August Wilsons Seven Guitars seven guitars 3 150x150 Two River Theater Continues To Bring Explosiveness With August Wilsons Seven Guitars seven guitars 2 150x150 Two River Theater Continues To Bring Explosiveness With August Wilsons Seven Guitars

Unlike many of Wilson’s other plays, Seven Guitars has a central theme on family and community where in most scenes, the characters are sitting around catching up or as some would say “catching the breeze”, so to speak. A conversation of good jokes and laughs but also turns into some tense fiery moments that spark insightful dialogue.

And Brandon Dirden’s brother, Jason Dirden, plays Canewell and his wife Crystal A. Dickinson as Louise, which shows it more than just a family affair beyond the stage.

While our previous reviews gives you an in-depth description of the plot, we encourage our readers this time than to rather read about the play, to go get the August Wilson experience yourself. If you want to learn about rich history and culture, with an explosive plot on the lives and trials black Americans, Seven Guitar’s is your play. Seven Guitars is a rich music drama, where we see people balancing life and their dreams. And that is : everybody has a time coming.

It runs until October 4th at the Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ. For more information, please visit trtc.org

Brandon Taylor from Eatontown NJ, is a smart enthusiastic young man that has a lot to share and to communicate with today’s youth who are struggling through life. He talks about education, football at New Hampshire University and the realities of playing at the Professional level.

Brandon Taylor 1024x768 Athlete Brandon Taylor Tells The Youth To Focus On Their Education

His goal is to inspire other young people to never give up on their dreams and aspirations and to make education their main priority. When I first met Brandon at Planet Fitness, I knew he was someone special and had a lot to offer the today’s youth. Brandon was in the processing doing knee Launches to strengthen his knees. He had blew his knee out during his senior year in college. Brandon who has played for the Pittsburgh Power arena football league was in training to prepare himself to take on a guest coaching position with the Pittsburgh Steelers, in hopes of obtaining a position volunteering or as an intern.

Brandon was the “DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR/BACKS COACH” for the “PITTSBURGH POWER” (2013) and then the DEFENSIVE BACKS COACH FOR THE “CLEVELAND GLADIATORS” (2014-FIRST 10 GAMES). Before Brandon transitioned to the collegiate ranks…. His professional playing career ended after the 2011 season with the UTAH BLAZE (ARENA FOOTBALL LEAGUE-AFL)!

Brandon doesn’t hesitate to say that he has a backup plan of coaching at the college level if he doesn’t make the Pittsburgh Steeler’s team this year. Brandon now coaches at Bentley University in Waltham, Ma. Although Brandon coaches on the defensive side of the ball he also has recently transitioned over to the offense as the assistant running backs coach. Brandon versatility of coaching on either side of the ball has become a great access to the team.

Check Brandon out as he talks candidly about his future career goals. Good luck Brandon at Bentley University and keep inspiring the younger generation to be the best that they can be.

Long Branch Community Activist Avery Grant Says He Will Continue To Fight For Community Concerns Despite “Very Appalling” Treatment By Long Branch City Council

Avery Grant

Long Branch, NJ – It is a normal routine for Avery Grant. On the scheduled days, the community activist, Long Board of Education member, Volunteer Executive Director of the Concerned Citizens Coalition of Long Branch, NJ, and former runner for Mayor of the city attends the Long Branch City Council meetings. Grant says he attends the meetings to address his concerns as a citizen of the community. Most recently, he has been going to the council meetings as a representative of the Concerned Citizens Coalition of Long Branch to get a permit for a plaque to honor two deceased chairpersons, Sharmaine Patterson and Julia Wheeler. But as his attendance to the meetings continued, Avery Grant saw how things can turn around in a blink of an eye.

On January 5th, Mr. Grant alleges he received very disparate treatment from Mayor Adam Schneider and council members while trying to make a professional presentation. Determined not to remain silent, on January 26th, Avery Grant returned for business as usual to fight for causes that concerned him. But this time his appeal to the council would end up having him interrupted and ultimately removed from the podium to speak. The video of Avery Grant during the Long Branch City Council meeting on January 26th has made its rounds on Facebook, and what initially caught my attention.

That day Avery Grant says he attended the meeting to address the council about the treatment he received at the January 5th meeting and to continue his plight with the Concerned Citizens Coalition of Long Branch to request a permit for a plaque. But Avery Grant never got to finish his speech or his appeal as he was cut off mid-sentence by a council member and Mayor Adam Schneider. In the video Grant begins with stating the policy of a citizen to address the council. You must state your name, address, and the group you’re with, if any. Each person has five minutes to speak. Grant begins to address the council about the treatment he received on the Jan. 5th council meeting.

“I was appalled … I was appalled because in 1959, I received better treatment sitting at a whites only cafeteria counter in Louisville, KY than I received here. Maybe I should have expected this because some of your family roots probably go back to when the Ku Klux Klan marched down ..”. It then becomes inaudible as Grant is interrupted by Mayor Adam Schneider and a woman council member identified as the President. “I’m not going to stop, this is my time”, Grant says. The woman tells Grant to continue his speech, but the exchange words and interruption continued. You can hear Mayor Adam Schneider say “are you comparing me to the KKK? … That is offensive and a bigoted comment”. Grant never had the chance to finish and was asked to leave the mic and sit down. That he did, he says.

Grant says he was interrupted because of his comment on the KKK but he says he never said or his intentions were to say the Mayor or his family was a KKK member. In his speech that he never got to finish, Grant speaks of the history of Long Branch “when the KKK used to hold parades down Broadway – and blacks had to sit in the balcony at the movie theater”. Grant says he was only speaking of the history of Long Branch. It can be seen that he might have been connecting it to present day.

You can be the own judge and jury of the video. But Grant says the treatment he received from Mayor Adam Schneider and council members was “appalling and disrespectful” and this “isn’t the first time it has happened”. Grant has affirmed despite the treatment he received that night, he will continue his plight for the community of Long Branch, NJ and the Concerned Citizens Coalition.

When asked about how everything went down, Grant says he felt badly because that night was supposed to be about Sharmaine Patterson and Julia Wheeler and all the wonderful things they have done for the Long Branch community. They deserve recognition and the plaque he is fighting for them on the Seaview Avenue Bridge.

The Concerned Citizens Coalition of Long Branch was formed by Sharmaine Patterson and Julia Wheeler when 30 – 40 residents in two public housing projects became very sick from fumes from the the excavation of highly contaminated sol at a site next to them. Grant was one of the people called by them to take the sick to the hospital. Patterson and Wheeler were instrumental in causing the new Seaview Avenue Bridge to be built, caused 292 residents to be compensated for personal injuries and sickness in $30 million lawsuits, caused the New Jersey Natural Gas company to give $5 million to support the rents for these residents to relocate, helped upgrading the Long Branch Sewage Treatment Plant to reduce toxious orders, and assisted with the approval of HOPE VI funding.

During my interview with Grant, he asserted that he feels Long Branch council should have more concern for the betterment of the community, which is predominately black. In regards for the plight against the toxic area around Seaview Manor, Grant said:

“The city is the first line of defense”. Meaning, the people of the community should feel comfortable coming to them first before going to anyone else.

Grant says Long Branch has transformed into a fine community but still needs to continue to work together for the betterment of the community. Grant feels the sense of community has greatly diminished. Programs like the Soccer League, the International Festival no longer exist. And that the community is not directly benefiting from Pier Village and eminent domain has destroyed that. So just like any activist would, he feels like there is still more work to do.

Avery Grant says he plans to attend the city council meeting on February 9th to continue to keep addressing the concerns of the community and fight for the plaque for Patterson and Wheeler. He encourages people in the community to come if they have issues themselves. Long Branch City Council meetings are held 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 7:30 PM in the Conference Room.

Michael Jordan Speaks On Policing & Race : “I Can No Longer Stay Silent”

Michael Jordan

This is huge as Michael Jordan has relatively been silent for years on the issues of race and policing. The basketball legend has released a statement sharing his sentiments on the events happening in America :

As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers. I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well, Michael Jordan said.

michael jordan 1024x576 Michael Jordan Speaks On Policing & Race : I Can No Longer Stay Silent

“I was raised by parents who taught me to love and respect people regardless of their race or background, so I am saddened and frustrated by the divisive rhetoric and racial tensions that seem to be getting worse as of late. I know this country is better than that, and I can no longer stay silent. We need to find solutions that ensure people of color receive fair and equal treatment AND that police officers – who put their lives on the line every day to protect us all – are respected and supported.

“Over the past three decades I have seen up close the dedication of the law enforcement officers who protect me and my family. I have the greatest respect for their sacrifice and service. I also recognize that for many people of color their experiences with law enforcement have been different than mine. I have decided to speak out in the hope that we can come together as Americans, and through peaceful dialogue and education, achieve constructive change.

“To support that effort, I am making contributions of $1 million each to two organizations, the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s newly established Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The Institute for Community-Police Relations’ policy and oversight work is focused on building trust and promoting best practices in community policing. My donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the nation’s oldest civil rights law organization, will support its ongoing work in support of reforms that will build trust and respect between communities and law enforcement. Although I know these contributions alone are not enough to solve the problem, I hope the resources will help both organizations make a positive difference.

“We are privileged to live in the world’s greatest country – a country that has provided my family and me the greatest of opportunities. The problems we face didn’t happen overnight and they won’t be solved tomorrow, but if we all work together, we can foster greater understanding, positive change and create a more peaceful world for ourselves, our children, our families and our communities.”

Monmouth County Democrats Black Caucus

Asbury Park, NJ – On Tuesday October 26, the Monmouth County Democrats held a Black American Caucus, a candidate forum of local public officials running for office in the upcoming November 8th election. As the election nears, community members came to St. Augustine’s Church in Asbury Park, NJ to hear candidates positions on how they plan to advocate for change within their communities in Monmouth County, NJ.

Attendees were Jeffery Cantor, running for Sheriff, Matthew Doherty & Brenda C. Fulton, running for Board of Chosen Freeholders, Vincent Solomeno, III running for Surgo, and Lorna Phillpson, running for District 4 Congressional Seat, with guest speakers Congressman Frank Pallone, and Daniel Harris, who is running for Asbury Park City Council. Each candidate spoke about the plans they planned to change or implement if elected into officer.

The tone was clear, there is a need for change within our educational system when it comes to student loan debt and more representation of African-Americans within our government. Frank Pallone talked about an African-American who was accepted to Rutgers Engineering School, but decided to get a two year degree because he didn’t want to incur an enormous amount of debt.  Frank Pallone said that’s absolutely insane as everyone should have the opportunity to become that lawyer, doctor, or engineer without being deterred because of student loans.

The conversation continued with New Jersey high costs of  living as Loran Phillpson, who is running for District 4 Congressional Seat, talked about the need to make New Jersey wages higher and livable.

“A living wage in New Jersey is $20, and here we are fighting for $15 dollars and that still isn’t enough”

The forum was very candid as many of the candidates talked about the need for more black representation in our community and the curbing of systematic racism.

Jeffery Cantor who is running for Monmouth County Sheriff stressed the importance for the need for more African-American representation in government office.

“There are more African-Americans in jail, than there are representing in office”.

Check out some highlights below of the forum. Be sure to be in the know about the candidates that are running for office. Election day is November 8th!

Woman Calls Police To Report A Man Assaulted Her Son, Fort Worth Police Arrest Her Instead

woman arrested by fort worth texas police for calling them about assault on son

A video is starting to go viral of a woman and her daughters being arrested after she called the police to assist with a matter. The woman has now been identified as Jacqueline Craig and her two daughters. They have now been released from custody.

The video shows a Fort Worth, TX police officer antagonizing, manhandling, and then arresting the woman and her daughter. Initially, the woman called the police because a man (neighbor), who happens to be white, had allegedly assaulted her 7-year-old son for “littering”. After briefly speaking with the man, the police officer walks over to the woman and says:

“What’s going on with you?”

“My daughter and son came home, saying that this man grabbed him and choked him,” the mother said as her daughter recorded. “I came around here and asked him. I said, ‘Why did you put your hands on my son?’ He said, ‘Oh, he threw some paper and I told him to pick it up.’ He said he defied him and that’s why he did it…you don’t have the right to choke somebody’s son. My son is 7-years-old, you don’t have the right to grab him and choke him.”

In response to the mother’s obvious concerns and distress, the police officer asked in a condescending tone, “Why don’t you teach your son not to litter?”

“He can’t prove to me that he did or didn’t, but it doesn’t matter,” the mother said. “That doesn’t give him the right to put his hands on him.”

The officer then responded, “Why not?”

Things now go to another level. At this point, the mother, visibly upset told the officer that he didn’t know what she taught her children, made it clear that he was wrong for interrogating her in the manner he was instead of the man that assaulted her 7-year-old son.

The officer, completely suffering from selective memory forgetting that he had not just suggested that the man had a right to assault her child, asked, “Why are you yelling?”

She explained that she was “pissed off” that he would even suggest that her son deserved to be assaulted and questioned her parenting skills, to which he responded, “If you keep yelling at me, you’re going to piss me off and I’m going take you to jail.”

When the woman’s daughter attempted to get in between her and the officer, he pushed her out of the way, grabbed the mother pushed her to the ground, pressed a Taser into her back, then pointed the Taser at her family.

Watch The Video Below:

The man who allegedly assaulted the child stood by quietly as the police officer treated a group of black women, mother and daughters, like they were nothing but violent criminals.

The police officer eventually detained the person recording the assault and took her phone.

At the beginning of the video, you can hear one of the daughter’s say, “Don’t yell, mama.”

In certain cases, we would request to see more information before jumping to conclusions. However, this video gives me all the information I need to see this was unjustified. The way this officer escalated and antagonized this woman was unprofessional. He dismissed the alleged violence by a man towards a 7-year-old and directed his focus and questioned parenting skills to a concerned mother. His job is not to be a judge and jury, but to protect and serve when citizens call you while in distress. He failed big time. Three innocent people are still sitting in jail for calling the police to protect them.

This situation is one of the many reasons why, unfortunately, people of color are afraid to call the police or interact with them. This police officer was nothing but a coward with a gun displaying aggression while abusing his power. This is why people say black lives matter. It is not about an organization, it is literally about the statement. Black lives do matter and this officer that day showed it didn’t.

We are still waiting for a statement from the Fort Worth police department on the matter.
